¡Rumbo a la estación de trenes!

Laura va a coger el tren en la estación de Atocha en quince minutos. No tiene mucho tiempo y su novio, Manuel, la lleva a la estación. En el coche:

Laura: ¿Tienes mi billete de tren por casualidad?

Manuel: Yo no tengo tu billete de tren.

Laura: ¡Oh, vaya! Bueno espera, ya lo tengo.

Manuel: ¿A qué hora sale el tren?

Laura: No lo sé. Voy a mirar… sale a las 11:23.

Manuel: ¡Nunca sabes nada!

Laura: ¡Eso no es verdad!

Manuel: ¿Desde qué andén sale tu tren?

Laura: Andén 2, creo.

Manuel: ¿Llevas todo?

Laura is going to catch the train at Atocha station in fifteen minutes. She does not have much time and her boyfriend, Manuel, takes her to the station. In the car:

Laura: Do you have my train ticket by any chance?

Manuel: I do not have your train ticket.

Laura: Oh, wow! Well wait, I have it.

Manuel: What time does the train leave?

Laura: I do not know. I’m going to look … it’s at 11:23.

Manuel: You never know anything!

Laura: That’s not true!

En español, negamos de dos formas: simple o doble negación. Además, podemos hacerlo tanto antes como después del verbo. Por ejemplo, antes:

  1. Nunca voy al teatro.
  2. Nadie lo sabe.
  3. Ninguno de ellos es actor.
  4. En su vida lo conseguirá.
  5. Ni su padre le perdonaría.

Después del verbo:

  1. No voy al teatro nunca.
  2. Él no está de acuerdo nunca.
  3. No lo sabe nadie.
  4. No es actor ninguno de ellos.
  5. No lo conseguirá en su vida.

Negation in Spanish grammar:

In Spanish, we deny in two ways: simple or double negation. In addition, we can do it both before and after the verb. For example, before:

  1. I never go to the theater.
  2. Nobody knows.
  3. None of them is an actor.
  4. In your life you will achieve it.
  5. Nor would his father forgive him.

After the verb:

  1. I never go to the theater.
  2. He never agrees.
  3. Nobody knows.
  4. Not one of them is an actor.
  5. He will not achieve it in his life.
  6. Not even his father would forgive him.
