EN EL CINE
La semana pasada Alba y Ernesto fueron juntos al cine. Tardaron en decidir qué película ver porque a Alba le gustan las comedias románticas, mientras que Ernesto prefiere las películas de acción y de aventuras. Ambos tuvieron una pequeña discusión delante de la cartelera.
Ernesto: No quiero volver a ver otra comedia romántica de Meg Ryan. ¡Vaya actriz! Todos sus papeles son de chica ñoña y enamoradiza. Al final parece que siempre está interpretando el mismo personaje en todas sus películas. La última vez que vinimos al cine me aburrí como una ostra. ¡Fue un rollo!
Alba: ¿Rollo? ¿Son más divertidas las películas que tengo que soportar por ti? En la última que me obligaste a ver sólo vi coches explotando en llamas y al protagonista golpeando a hombres con cara de malo. Los actores actuaron fatal. Vine ilusionada al cine y salí decepcionada. Estuve muy aburrida y no pude evitar dormirme. Al final dije: ¡Menudo bodrio!
Ernesto y Alba no pudieron llegar a un acuerdo y se enfadaron un poco pero al final hicieron las paces. Eligieron una solución intermedia: una comedia española de Pedro Almodóvar.
Ernesto: A ver qué tal esta película. La última vez que fui a ver una peli de Almodóvar fue hace mucho tiempo. Vi la película y después hice un resumen en español. No pude escribir muchas palabras por mi escaso vocabulario. No supe explicar el argumento claramente e hice muchas faltas de ortografía.
Alba: ¡Es normal! No pudiste escribir mucho por ser un estudiante principiante ¡Ay! Ahora recuerdo que debo hacer muchos ejercicios de español. También tengo que estudiar los tiempos pasados. ¡No, Dios mío!
Ernesto: No tienes que preocuparte. No debes ser tan sufridora. Para aprender español también hay que leer libros y hay que ver películas en español. Estamos en el cine para ver una película en español. ¡Esto también son deberes!

AT THE CINEMA
Last week Alba and Ernesto went to the movies together. They took a long time to decide which movie to watch because Alba likes romantic comedies, while Ernesto prefers action movies and adventures. Both had a small argument in front of the billboard.
Ernesto: I do not want to see another romantic Meg Ryan comedy again. What an actress! All their roles are girlish and loveable. In the end it seems that he is always playing the same character in all his films. The last time we came to the movies I got bored stiff. It was a bore!
Alba: A bore? Are the movies I have to endure more fun for you? In the last one you forced me to see, I only saw cars exploding in flames and the protagonist hitting men with a bad face. The actors acted terribly. I was excited to the cinema and I left disappointed. I was very bored and I could not help falling asleep. At the end I said : What a mess!
Ernesto and Alba could not reach an agreement and got a little angry but in the end they made peace. They chose an intermediate solution: a Spanish comedy by Pedro Almodóvar.
Ernesto: Let’s see how this movie is. The last time I went to see an Almodóvar movie was a long time ago. I saw the movie and then I did a summary in Spanish. I could not write many words because of my limited vocabulary. I did not know how to explain the argument clearly and I made many misspellings.
Alba: It’s normal! You could not write a lot for being a beginner student Ay! Now I remember that I have to do many Spanish exercises. I also have to study the past times. No, my God!
Ernesto: You do not have to worry. You mustn’t be so hard on yourself. To learn Spanish you also have to read books and you have to watch movies in Spanish. We are in the cinema to watch a movie in Spanish. This is also homework!

Pretérito perfecto simple
Arriba en el texto, puedes ver expresiones como:
“Ayer me levanté a las una vez” (Ayer, me levanté a las once) o
“Anoche volví a casa” (Anoche volví a casa).
“Me levanté” y “volví” son formas pasadas que pertenecen a un tiempo llamado “pretérito perfecto simple”.
Usamos pretérito simple:
Cuando nos referimos a acciones desarrolladas en un período de tiempo finalizado:

Simple past tense
Up in the text, you can see expressions like:
“Yesterday I woke up at once” (Yesterday, I woke up at eleven o’clock) or
“I went home last night” (I went home last night).
“I got up” and “I came back” are past forms that belong to a time called “simple past tense”.
We use simple preterit:
When we refer to actions developed in a final period of time:
