Free English Course online-Lesson 1- the verb to be.
Hii students welcome to lesson one. It is about the verb to be. We will learn the
verb to be in the present simple in the positive form which we also call the
affirmative form. When we conjugate the verb we will learn the subject personal
pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, you, and they. Don’t forget to turn on the subtitles,
they exist in English and in many other languages, don’t forget to post your
comments. If you have doubts or difficulties or you would simply like to
give your own example post below and check out the description of this video.
It contains the link to the entire course where you will not only access
these videos but also interactive quizzes and scripts. So what does each
lesson comprise, each lesson is comprised of different sections. Ideally this is
the order in which you will cover each section you will start off with the
dialogue now you should watch the dialogue once with no subtitles then
again with subtitles in English and the third time if you want or if you have to
with subtitles in your own language. Then again with no subtitles that is just a
suggestion but start off with the dialogue the story of the lesson. The
second step is the vocabulary this is simply the list of key words of the
dialogue being read out. You have a few seconds after each word so ideally take
time to repeat out loud try and really work on your Enunciation.
and your general pronunciation. Once you have covered those first two steps you
will be moving on to step number three the grammar point of the day. Now
generally speaking this grammar point already appears in context, it appears in
the dialogue. Now it’s time to understand the theory and look at more examples to
really understand how you can use that grammar point in everyday English. The
fourth point is for speaking practice it is sometimes called questions and
answers other times free speaking practice and this is just a very quick
dialogue between two characters. And all that we are doing here is mixing the
grammar and vocabulary of the dialogue in a question-and-answer format. Once you
have covered those four steps you will be about to start your final step which
is called recap videos. Now these recap videos are tutorials where I appear and
I explain the highlights, the most important points of today’s lesson. So
let’s get started. Welcome to dialogue lesson one.

Hi students welcome to your recap video for lesson 1. So this is your very first
lessons I hope that you enjoyed it that you are comfortable with the new
vocabulary and grammar. So as you may already know in each of these videos I’m
going to review some grammar some pronunciations and vocabulary
difficulties with you. So I have my notes here so those notes are going to appear
here on the screen and so let’s start off with some grammar. So you may have
noticed this already but in English unlike some Latin languages we have the,
what we call the indefinite article or a or em or em so we can pronounce it two
ways a a and so you saw that in the dialogue a student but it doesn’t exist
in plural.Sso you cannot say students that does not exist so in English here
we just do not have anything. We don’t use an article you say, He is a student,
She is a student, they are students, we are students. So that’s very important
the article. Now let’s move on to pronunciation I know this is your first
class so I would like to give you some general tips so as you can see the way
I’m speaking is I am exaggerating the vowel sounds. So a e i o u and the
combinations that we have with those vowels we have lots of different
combinations of sounds. So we weren’t going to detail but try and emphasize
exaggerate those vowel sounds so you have to speak slowly
you have to enunciate and exaggerate initially then when you start to speak
more confidently then you can speak faster
and still pronounce well so that’s tip number one and tip number two with
regards to pronunciation is the stress pattern. So in English let’s simplify the
rule today try and stress try and exaggerate the first sound of the word.
Not student Student not teachers Teachers so try and exaggerate the first
sound of the new words so repeat after me student teacher and finally final
little tip final piece of advice for today is the pronunciation of the plural.
You have seen different words a list of words today and already you may have
noticed that the plural so the S at the end of your noun is pronounced
differently depending on the noun. So let’s say student the plural is students
the S ending is pronounced repeat with me student plural students. Whereas
teacher is pronounced zip in plural teachers and then finally I’m going to
look at my list. Course the word course is also in today’s lesson the plural of
courses call scissors so the pronunciation of the plural the ending
is ism course courses so practice those so when you now go back and re-listen
review the dialogue pay attention to those differences with the plural
endings. It’s not very important maybe now if you look at if they no it’s fine
students, teachers, I can pronounce it however I want I don’t recommend you do
that pay attention to detail because you will notice that if you pronounce well
and I’ve done many lessons on this before but if you pronounce well it
doesn’t mean that you get rid of your accent your foreign accent but a good
pronounce is still possible with a foreign accent
so try and exaggerate so that you have a clear very easy to understand accent
when you speak in English and this will give you tremendous confidence that’s it
for today see you soon bye bye.
